Why consultants use this tool

Carbon consultants, sustainability advisers and ESOS auditors need a fast, credible way to estimate an organisation's carbon footprint before committing to a full assessment. The Carbon Workbench Footprint Analyser gives you a BSI PAS 2060-aligned Scope 1, 2 and 3 breakdown in under two minutes - without a spreadsheet, without importing data files, and without an enterprise software contract.

The results include a breakdown by emission source, a headline tCO₂e/yr figure, and an offset cost estimate at Gold Standard pricing. All emission factors come from the UK Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) 2024 publication and IPCC AR6.

BSI PAS 2060 alignment

BSI PAS 2060 is the UK standard for demonstrating carbon neutrality. It requires organisations to measure their carbon footprint across all material Scope 1, 2 and 3 categories, set a reduction target, implement a reduction plan, offset residual emissions with qualifying carbon credits, and make a qualifying explanatory statement.

The Carbon Workbench Footprint Analyser is designed to produce estimates consistent with PAS 2060 methodology. It uses activity-based accounting (rather than spend-based) and applies the DESNZ conversion factors mandated by UK government guidance. The output is suitable for ESOS (Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme) preliminary assessments and CarbonZero certification preparation.

Using the footprint for offset planning

Once you have a tCO₂e/yr figure, the calculator shows an indicative offset cost at current Gold Standard market prices. This helps clients understand the order of magnitude of their offset liability before committing to a full abatement strategy.

For clients who want to discuss offset options, The Carbon Workbench can help connect footprint estimates with suitable Gold Standard project pathways including cookstoves, safe water and renewable energy.
